AT A GLANCE OF EASTMAN EXPORTS

Building Scalable Knitwear Manufacturing with Intelligent Quality Systems

Founded in 1983 and headquartered in India, Eastman Exports has grown into one of India’s leading knitwear exporters. Eastman has evolved into a vertically integrated apparel manufacturing group covering spinning, knitting, dyeing, printing, embroidery, garmenting, and finishing.

Today, EASTMAN operates more than 35 manufacturing facilities and an annual output exceeding 100 million knitted garments. Its products are exported primarily to Europe and North America, serving internationally recognized fashion and sportswear brands including Levi's, H&M, Nike, Gap, Zara, and Lululemon. As global buyers continue raising requirements for product consistency, sustainability, and supply chain transparency, EASTMAN has accelerated investments in intelligent manufacturing systems. The company has introduced advanced spinning and sewing equipment while actively promoting automation upgrades across dyeing, inspection, and packaging processes to support future production expansion and high-end order acquisition.

However, with increasing production capacity and stricter international quality requirements, EASTMAN gradually encountered operational bottlenecks in manual fabric inspection and packaging processes. Traditional inspection methods could no longer keep pace with high-speed dyeing and finishing production lines, while inconsistent inspection standards, rising labor costs, and the lack of digital traceability created mounting pressure on quality management and customer compliance.

THE ROADBLOCKS TO TEXTILE QUALITY EXCELLENCE

01. Manual Inspection Slows Down High-Speed Production

Manual fabric inspection relies heavily on manpower, with inspection speeds limited to 15–20 m/min. The mismatch created serious production bottlenecks and delayed downstream processes and shipment schedules.

02. Packing Inconsistency Impacts Export Quality

Manual packaging led to inconsistent roll tightness, incorrect labeling, and safety risks during transportation. Frequent packaging inconsistencies increased rejection risks and required large numbers of temporary workers to sustain daily output.

03. Lack of Digital Traceability Threatens Global Orders

Manual quality inspection could not accurately capture defect locations, defect categories, or inspection records, making it difficult to generate traceable quality reports required by international brands.

AI'S ANSWER TO GLOBAL TEXTILE QUALITY WOES

AI Fabric Inspection & Automated Packing Solutions

In 2023, after evaluating multiple intelligent textile automation suppliers, EASTMAN ultimately selected SUNTECH as its strategic partner for quality inspection and packaging automation upgrades. The decision was driven by SUNTECH’s extensive experience in textile manufacturing automation and its strong capability in delivering customized AI inspection solutions tailored to large-scale knitwear production environments.

To address EASTMAN’s high-output production requirements and strict export quality standards, the SUNTECH technical team carried out targeted AI model optimization based on the characteristics of knitted fabrics, color variations and common defect types found in EASTMAN’s production processes. By integrating AI-powered visual inspection technology with automated packaging systems, SUNTECH successfully built a complete intelligent quality control workflow for the customer.

The upgraded solution significantly improved inspection consistency and eliminated quality fluctuations caused by manual judgment differences between shifts. At the same time, automated packaging and barcode management standardized roll packaging quality while reducing labor dependency and operational pressure. More importantly, the system established a digital quality traceability platform capable of generating AI inspection reports, defect maps, and production data records required by global fashion brands. This enabled EASTMAN to strengthen compliance capabilities for high-end international customers while laying the foundation for future smart factory expansion and lean manufacturing management.
